A Word from Executive Director, Matt Grant

I will be honest, 2020 started off as a record breaking year for us as an organization; with an increase in camper registrations and retreat bookings, the year started to look very exciting. However, within a few months the entire world, businesses and families were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic shifted our focus and created a new normal as many of us creatively needed to find a new way forward. Looking back on the year it is evident God was working! 108 campers were impacted at camp this summer, seeing God in a new perspective, and even devoting their lives to Him for the first time ever. Many projects were completed and the virus did not stop us from dreaming and taking camp to the next level of planning. Toward the end of 2020, we saw a tremendous outpouring of support and generosity from our friends and donors through our matching grant opportunity campaign. I fully trust God has a plan for camps, our churches, and our communities to continue to make a difference in the lives around us, even in the midst of the pandemic. I am excited to share our successes and blessing from this year because of your encouragement and support. Thank you!

Outstanding Generosity- MATCHING GRANT CAMPAIGN

Over 3 months ago we began a new campaign, and due to our losses throughout 2020, it was much needed to keep camp sustainable into 2021. As a key part to this campaign, two friends of camp offered to match any funds given, dollar-for-dollar, to reach our goal of $50,000 by December 31st, 2020. As of December 9th, 2020, we have raised over $30,000! We still have close to $20,000 to go and only a few short weeks to get there. Half of that $20,000 will be matched. Personally, I have been amazed with the support and generosity our friends and the community have given. Camp is a special place with the opportunity to transform lives and we feel called to live our God given mission during this pandemic and beyond.

Maintenance and Capital Projects

  • The Volunteer Campground Shower house (VCS) was donated and built completely by volunteers this past summer and will provide the campground and activity area with much needed restrooms close-by.
  • One volunteer devoted 300 hours throughout the summer and fall seasons to deep clean the interior and exterior of our barn. We also received donations to do some much needed repair on the roof and siding of the barn.
  • 2020 also saw the completion of the lodge bathroom renovation project, as well as paint and other cosmetic fixes to our older cabins.

Thank you!!!

Dick Wiles, beloved friend and supporter of camp is officially retiring from our governing board, along with leading our maple syrup production. Dick has been involved with the camp for over 20 years, and was one of the founding members of our current governing board. He has done almost everything associated with offering a great camp experience and we want to thank him for all of his hard work, hours of dedication and passion for camp and its mission. We would not be where we are today if it were not for him.

What's new in 2021?

  • High ropes course! Through tree harvest money available for capital improvement projects, we wanted to create something new to incite excitement for our summer 2021 season. Thanks to Redpoint Adventure for constructing this amazing 4 element ropes course. We are beyond excited to challenge our campers on it this summer!
  • Board growth- we have officially gained two new board members in Tiffani Decker and Bob Sands! Tiffani also known by her camp name, "Momo", is a past staff member and currently lives in the Kettering area. Bob is a member of First Presbyterian Church in Norwalk and is passionate about leading and tutoring youth in that area. We are very excited to have them on board and what they can bring to our team!

"...wonderful memory for my daughters."

My girls, Lindsey and Sydney attended Horselovers Camp. My daughters loved it so much and I want to thank [the staff] and all the others who made this a wonderful memory for my daughters. I know God smiles down on those who serve him in such a wonderful way. They cannot wait to come back for 2 or more sessions next year! God Bless all of you and hope to see you soon.
